Almost 43 000 sq. meters of new shopping area with construction elements saved of the old Supersam hall will be erected on Piotra Skargi St. by the end of September 2015.
The new Supersam will be developed by Griffin Group, the owner of Renoma retail center in Wrocław and of a reconstruction project of “Hala Koszyki” (Koszyki Hall) in Warsaw. Griffin contracted Hochtief Polska to conduct the construction work on the Katowice mall at the end of April. The contract value was agreed to be kept confidential.
Hochtief has already commenced design works referring the construction of Supersam. The project scope includes development of a building with five storeys situated over the ground (including two parking levels) and one underground floor. The new building will house about 100 shops and service points, as well as a modern cinema and fitness club.
The ground and first storeys will be designed for commercial space occupied by shops, and the second storey is designed for cinema, restaurants and recreational facilities. A car park will occupy the roof and part of third and fourth storeys – the remaining part of these two levels will be occupied by the cinema. The underground level will provide retail space, as well as technical facilities, storage space and delivery area.
A distinguishing feature of the investment is the main part of the building where fourth steel spans from the original welded construction of the old Supersam hall will be kept within the new structure. Above the entire open space, there has been designed a roof lantern linked in its shape to the construction of the historic hall.
The total area of the project will amount to 42 800 sq. meters. At present, design works are in progress. Construction works are to begin in August 2013 and are scheduled to be completed in September 2015.
“Supersam together with the Renoma shopping center and the Koszyki Hall will make up key activity of the Griffin Group in the retail segment. Choice of Hochtief Polska as the prime contractor assures timely realization as well as high quality of all construction works. Therefore, already now I invite inhabitants of the Silesian Agglomeration to opening ceremony in nearly about two years” – said Michał Świerczyński, Venture Partner and Head of Retail in the Griffin Group.
