First lease agreement for “Nowe Katowickie Centrum Biznesu” (NKCB, New Business Center of Katowice) has been revealed. Almost half of the building’s rentable office space will be occupied by Unilever, one of the world’s top consumer goods firms.
katowicethecity.com informed about this transaction in the middle of August, however the location and the volume of contracted office space were confidential at that time. The new seat will house Unilever’s several Katowice departments, including UltraLogistik Transport Operation Center. Offices of the company are currently based at 2 Kołodziejska St. where the margarine and tea production plant is also situated.
“A necessity of finding a new location in Katowice was mostly connected with the expansion of UltraLogistik. The organization does not have enough space to accommodate any new staff in the present office. UltraLogistik currently employs 160 people and we expect the number will be increased in the nearest future as the Center is very successful at fulfilling the tasks” – Anna Kozerska, Communication Director at Unilever Poland, said to katowicethecity.com in mid-August.
A few days ago the company announced a new project which will reduce the distance that Unilever’s trucks drive on Europe’s roads by around 200 million kilometers annually by the end of 2014. UltraLogistik in Katowice manages the project.
According to Jones Lang LaSalle, commercial real estate advisors, Unilever has leased 5 400 sq. meters of office space in “Nowe Katowickie Centrum Biznesu”. This significant transaction will most likely be the largest office lease agreement signed in Katowice in 2012. “From the beginning of 2012 we are observing increased interest in Katowice as an alternative to Kraków and Wrocław cities, where rental rates started to accelerate. Taking into account that the process of selection the city and preferred office location takes usually from six up to nine months, we should expect a few more big transactions in Katowice at the turn of 2012 and 2013” – representative of Jones Lang LaSalle explains.
“Nowe Katowickie Centrum Biznesu” is located at 6 Chorzowska St. in the very heart of Katowice and offers 11 100 sq. meters of office space for lease. Last outfitting works are underway in NKCB and the building is scheduled to be delivered this year. Unilever plans to move into the new seat in January 2013.
UltraLogistik’s Transport Operations Center was launched in Katowice in 2008. It manages Unilever’s transport movements by finding the most efficient ways to move raw materials and packaging between the company’s 60 factories and about 500 suppliers, and then transport finished goods to around 350 warehouses in Europe. UltraLogistik was awarded the Supply Chain Excellence Awards two times, in 2010 and 2011. The well-known branch awards recognize and reward organizations in Europe that demonstrate excellence in their supply chain operations.
