Construction works of the Scientific Information Center and Academic Library (SICAL) are progressing at full steam. Builders have already finished works on the bigger, lower part of the Center – a 63,75 m x 46,25 m block. On the ground floor, this three-storey part will consist of a main hall, a reading-room and a rental place as well as a conference room for 90 people and a didactic room with 30 seats.
The Scientific Information Center and Academic Library (SICAL), which development is currently in progress, is going to be a so-called hybrid library. It is a marriage of tradition and modernity. The aim of the project is to develop a modern scientific facility, which will meet 21st century requirements, and will keep a spirit of a traditional library. To be precise, the SICAL will make accessible its data in printed editions as well as electronic carries and via the Internet.
The University of Silesia library will procure a PLN 4 854 086,50 grant from the Regional Operational Programme for the Upper Silesian Voivodship. The grant will be spared for a library management system of the future seat of Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (SICAL, Polish acronym: CINiBA). The system will help to adapt both libraries resources – University of Silesia and University of Economics in Katowice – to a shared use in the new building of SICAL. A total amount of the project is PLN 5 710 690.
