July was the best for Katowice Airport

July was the best month for the Katowice International Airport in terms of handled passengers. However, analysis of data shows that the passenger number from the airport was down 4,4 percent in the period January to July 2013, compared with the first seven months of 2012.

The declines include both charters and regular flights. According to the airport’s authorities the main reason of the situation is the economic downturn causing the lower number of travellers.

In spite of recession that hit airlines and several bankruptcies of travel agencies in the region, Katowice International Airport saw a slight growth of handled number of passengers in 2012.

In fact, it was the busiest year in the airport’s history in terms of passenger traffic. In comparison to the year 2011, the total number of passengers grew by 0,5% last year and reached 2 550 848. This is 6,7 thousand passenger more when compared to 2011.

Number of destinations will be increased at Katowice Airport

Number of connections offered by Katowice International Airport will increase from 63 to 75 in 2012. Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze SA (GTL), which manages the airport, estimates that number of handled passengers will grow from 2,5 to 2,7 million this year.

The growth will be possible thanks to new regular flights (32 destinations, five more than in was in 2011) and charter flights (43, in 2011 it was 36 destinations).
