All 16 pillars back at Szewczyka Sq.

A few weeks before the official opening of the Katowice Railway Station, the last one of 16 umbrella pillars is fully reconstructed. Restoration works took 8 months which saw the structures coming back to their original location at Szewczyka Sq. one after another. The first to get there were 4 pillars forming a roof over the modern passenger hall of the new Katowice Station.

The new Railway Station’s building is being prepared for the opening on 30th of October. The glass entrance elevation has been already installed and necessary inspections are being carried out inside the hall to obtain the acceptance of safety conditions.

The inspections are reviewed by the National Fire Services and the Health Protection Agency. This week the building will start to be handed over to Polish State Railways (PKP)

Final works on Railway Station hall

The new Katowice Railway Station is almost done. The building and finishing works are to be completed in the days to come and the investor starts the construction works commissioning.

Outfitting of cash-desks, passenger service center, offices, service and staff rooms is coming to an end and the major part of the fore-mentioned area will be handed over to Polish State Railways within a few days. Also, some of tenants have already commenced to arrange their units in the commercial space of the hall.

First two pillars uncovered

Katowice residents can now admire the Railway Station’s first two umbrella pillars which emerged after the scaffold supporting their caps had been dismantled. Reconstruction works finished a month ago but it was necessary to keep the scaffold for several weeks for a special concrete mix to set inside the formwork.

The two reconstructed and uncovered pillars can be seen from 3 Maja St. and Stawowa St.
