The City Hall of Katowice is conducting a renovation of the Youth Palace (Pałac Młodzieży) located at 26 Mikołowska St. The renewal will take two-and-a-half years, and will cost approximately PLN 30,5 million. The P.B. Dombud SA company is a prime contractor of the investment.
Contract agreement between the company and the City Hall was signed in February this year. Dombud have already started works on the complex interiors. The renovation embraces an elevation cleaning, new roof covering, renewal of doors and windows, removing barriers for disabled as well as a restoration of a theater hall for about 500 spectators.
The Youth Palace is the center of after-school activities for children and the youth developing their interests in such areas as sport, art, science, foreign languages, mathematics, information technology, journalism and cinema. It also offers ecological activities, seminars connected with human rights, therapy through the art for disabled as well as regional, nationwide and international competitions including a swimming, gymnastics, fencing and judo.
Next year, the Youth Palace will celebrate its 60th anniversary. Last year, on 13th of April, the complex was listed in the Register of Historical Monuments with an “A” mark and the renovation is under the supervision of a voivodeship’s conservation officer.
