The middle of January 2012 is a deadline date for companies and institutions to file applications in the 17th edition of ‘Grasz o staż’ (literal translation – ‘Win the internship’) – a prestigious competition which provides promotion of employers, amplify corporate image and is also a chance to reach to a wide range of candidates. More and more companies from the Katowice agglomeration decide to participate in ‘Grasz o staż’.
Since 1996, the competition have opened doors to careers of more than 2 300 young people, more than 600 companies have sponsored the internships. Organized as a joint initiative of “Gazeta Wyborcza” (leading Polish newspaper) and PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), the competition gives an opportunity to satisfy needs of two parties – students and employers. “The ‘Grasz o staż’ initiative creates the unique platform, where employers meet the outstanding students and university graduates. Every year, we invite to the competition leading companies and present them ambitious and proactive students for internships” – says Anna Łukawska, ‘Grasz o staż’ coordinator in PwC.
In the last year’s edition, the Katowice agglomeration was represented by such companies as ArcelorMittal, BZM Consulting, Capgemini, Dom Maklerski BDM and Lauren Peso which took on internships-winners from across Poland. Through the participation companies create not only the corporate image of an attractive and ethic employer but also prove their social responsibility of young people’s growth and their careers.
„’Grasz o staż’ is a prestigious thing. Development of the competition for many years, excellent organization, promotion in the mass media – these are fundamental reasons telling why we decided to become one of the founders. However, the most important is the idea of the undertaking. Reaching young, talented, ambitious people who want to take careers into theirs own hands and supporting them is priceless” – explains Kamil Kita, CEO of Lauren Peso S.A. The headquarters of the company is located in Chorzów, where the chosen laureate has practiced in 2011. Also, the firm will be the founder of the internship in the next year’s edition and will fund an additional prize.
According to the organizers, from amongst the additional prizes the most desirable is participation in the “Business and Negotiations Skills Programme” in University of St Andrews in Great Britain. The coordinator claims Polish students are interested in gaining professional experience in companies and institutions not only in Poland but also abroad. “We are determined to find foreign companies in order to organize internships abroad. That would be fulfillment of students’ expectations. We believe that our common dream will come true” – adds Anna Łukawska.
An offer of ArcelorMittal – a global steel manufacturer with its Polish seat in Dąbrowa Górnicza – is a combination of the internship taking place in Poland but in a company of the international background. In 2008 the firm participated in the competition for the first time and since then welcomes from 5 to 7 laureates every year. The same number of places will be founded by the firm in the next year’s 17th edition. By now, 21 young people were trained in the Departments of Law, Audit, Purchase and HR. A longer cooperation was offered to eight of them.
„The ‘Grasz o staż’ competition helps us to create and strengthen the image of ArcelorMittal as an attractive employer in the media, company’s branch environment and, what is crucial for us, among prospective candidates. Participation in the competition gives us an opportunity to introduce our company to the wide target group, and then to develop further cooperation with people who enter the labour market. From year to year we see students and graduates are more and more interested in internships offered by us, also their awareness of the company’s profile and opportunities for new employees is growing” – said Anna Wyczesany, Director of the Recruitment and Training Office at ArcelorMittal Poland.
17th edition of the competition starts on 6th February 2012. All companies that are interested in organizing internships for students and young graduates are asked to contact with ‘Grasz o staż’ Team in PwC in Warsaw (Anna Łukawska, [email protected], phone: 0048-22-7467488).
