The City of Katowice waits for its genuine business meetings midpoint, the International Convention Center (ICC). While the Silesian Museum – which will be a part of the new cultural district together with the ICC – has already run procedures to choose a prime contractor, the International Convention Center is prior to this stage. However, it is in a fair way to follow the example.
“At present the application for EU grants is evaluating by the European Commission. Aside from the procedures in the EC, the Marshal Office of Śląskie Voivodeship signed last months a conditional agreement which qualifies the project of ICC for a European Union grant. It enables us to announce a tender for a prime contractor before the final decision of the EC. According to the schedule prepared by Grontmij, the tender announcement should take place before 20th of November 2010 – said Janusz Nowak, Project Manager of the ICC.
The consortium of Grontmij Polska and Grontmij Nederland B.V. were chosen as a Contract Engineer of the project. The consortium is responsible for supervisory and organizing issues during the investment process.
The International Convention Center will cover a total area of 34 186 sq. meters and will cost PLN 303 million. The ICC together with the “Spodek” arena will be able to host approximately 20 000 participants during events at one time.
