On 27th of January 2010, authorities of the Medical University of Silesia signed an agreement for a PLN 33,5 grant in a seat of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The subsidy will cover a reconstruction of an old laundry to the Didactics and Medical Simulation Center (Centrum Dydaktyki i Symulacji Medycznej).
At present, the Medical University is looking for a prime contractor of the Center. Companies which want to tender for a contract have to file theirs motions until 30th of March 2010. That is when an opening of bids will take place. A chosen prime contractor will have 18 months to conclude construction works.
The two storey Center’s building will be adapted for simulation rooms and a media center. A surgery and a life-saving room, two intensive care rooms, a simulator of an ambulance and a first-aid chamber will allow students to practice on phantoms and to simulate scenes which they will have to face with during professional duties.
Located in Katowice’s Ligota district, it is going to be the first Center of its kind in Poland.
