Tomorrow, on 17th of September, the construction work on Galeria Katowicka will be officially finished. Today, representative of the investor and the prime contractor have summed up the investment process.
The construction work on the multi-purpose scheme at Szewczyka Sq. was commenced in December 2010. During that time, 365 000 cubic meters of soil have been removed from the excavation by 40 000 heavy lorries. A diaphragm wall of the whole complex measures 860 meters and its depth reaches 30 meters. 95 000 cubic meters of concrete and 750 kilometers of cables were used in the construction process. About 4 000 people were working on the shopping center when the outfitting phase begun.
Galeria Katowicka will be opened on 18th of September at 10 a.m. The opening will last 5 days. The investor predicts that around 200 000 customers will visit the mall from Wednesday to Sunday.
The facility forms a part of the Integrated Transportation, Communication and Office Center located in the very heart of Katowice downtown. The center is comprised of the 5 800 sq. meters Railway Station, the 5 200 sq. meters underground bus hub and the 33 000 sq. meters underground two-storey car park for 1 200 vehicles. A modern office building is planned to be erected in the vicinity in the future.
The investors in this nearly EUR 250 million worth project are Neinver, Meyer Bergman and PKP S.A. (Polish State Railways). Strabag is the prime contractor of construction works, while Cushman & Wakefield is the exclusive agent responsible for lease of commercial space.
220 retail and service units will be located in Galeria Katowicka covering approximately 46 000 sq. meters of leasable space. 76 percent of the stores will be opened on the 18th of September. It is expected to reach the 96 percent level of openings in December this year. The 10-screen Multikino cinema is also scheduled for the opening the same month.
