Multikino – first tenant of Supersam

Multikino, one of the biggest multiplex operators in Poland will be the first tenant of the planned Supersam retail and entertainment center at Piotra Skargi St. Prime Properties, a subsidiary of Centrum Development and Investments (CDI) – owner of Supersam – concluded an agreement with Multikino S.A. to lease 2 000 sq. meters in the building.

The multiplex will be located on the second level of the center and will boast six modern screening rooms equipped with the Dolby 3D Digital Cinema technology.

According to public opinion researches carried out by TNS OBOP and commissioned by the investor, citizens of Katowice point that they look for interesting places to spend a free time, mostly during weekends. CDI reveals the future entertainment offer of Supersam will be extended by a well-know brand of fitness club.

It will be the second location of Multikino in Katowice. In November last year, the company informed about opening of a ten-screen cinema which will be situated in Galeria Katowicka being currently under construction at Szewczyka Sq.

Among the most popular events organized by Multikino are the annual “Noc Reklamożerców” (Commercial-eaters Night) – Poland’s major event dedicated to the world of commercials; “Kino na obcasach” (High heels cinema) – a weekly special performance for a female audience combining a film screening with either a care and beauty product presentation or a discussion on health and lifestyle, or even a sweets or wine tasting. since March 2009, Multikino shows high-definition transmissions and re-transmissions of the world’s most popular operas.

Owned by ITI Cinema, Multikino is the second largest multiplex chain in Poland, and has the distinction of opening the nation’s first multiplex, which was located in Poznań. Cinema City is Multikino’s primary competitor.

The company started its operation in 1995 as joint venture between ITI Cinema and British UCI. In 2003 ITI bought UCI shares an is now the only owner of the chain. In February 2008 it was announced that Multikino will merge with its second largest rival Silver Screen. At present, Multikino operates 23 cinemas in 17 Polish cities.
