The City Hall of Katowice is looking for a company ready to manage the International Convention Center (ICC) and the “Spodek” sport and entertainment hall in Katowice. A tender procedure has already been launched. Interested companies can file their motions until 31st of March 2011.
A chosen firm will be granted a concession for a period not shorter than 8 years and not exceeding 15 years with having rights to profits during that time. The company will be obliged to a property management and commercial activities. These are involving technical issues and administration of the building as well as marketing strategy, brand creation across Poland and abroad, events planning and organization, winning exhibitors, sponsors and advertisements.
Tendering companies must show an experience in managing at least a one sport and entertainment hall for 6000 spectators and at least a one convention center covering 10 000 sq. meters or holding 8000 seats. Additionally, an experience in organizing at least 100 events (excluding sport events) which gathered at least 1000 spectators is essential.
An estimated value of the concession is PLN 200 – 400 million net.
The International Convention Center will be developed near “Spodek” connected directly with the hall. Both facilities will be able to host about 20 000 visitors at one time. Construction works are to be commenced this year. According to extended administration procedures, an invitation to tender for a prime contractor of the ICC will be announced in Q1 2011. The building will cost PLN 303 million and will cover a total area of 34 186 sq. meters. The ICC is a part of planned new cultural district together with “Spodek” and new seats of Silesian Museum and National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
