Griffin Real Estate (GRE) opened a new shopping mall in the center of Katowice on Thursday. The retail part of Supersam is now fully leased. Approximately 5 000 sq. meters of office spaces will be delivered in the middle of 2016.
The building is located at 6 Piotra Skargi St. and was built in the place of a former retail hall, which had been designed by Stefan Bryła and opened in 1936. The architectural design of the new shopping center was prepared by Konior Studio.
The 6-storey building offers 23 000 sq. meters of leasable area. Four levels were designed for retail purposes (from -1 to 3rd storey). 400 parking places were located on the fourth and fifth storey as well as on the roof. Office premises will be situated on the second and on the third level. „Previously the space was appropriated for cinema purposes, however we decided to arrange there offices due to the saturation ratio of cinema infrastructure, which seems to be to high in the center of Katowice at the moment” – said Michał Świerczyński, venture partner and head of retail at Griffin Real Estate.
There are 76 retail and service units in Supersam, of which 24 have not been present yet in the center of the city: Empik, Pepco, Aldi, New Look, Monnari, Sportsdirect, Atlantic, Silesia Jeans, Szachownica, Grey Wolf, UrbanCity, Sergio Leone, TextilMarket, KIK, Passero, Strefa Diet, Hobby4Men, Top Secret, Zzadimo, Esotiq, Pafoscan Sport, Greenpoint, Strefa podróży and Jatomi Fitness.
„I hope the new Supersam shopping mall will be at least as popular as the former retail hall. We deliver the building, which is fully let. It is really rare is case of new shopping centers nowadays” – commented Grażyna Morawiec-Jóźwicka, head of Supersam.
The building was erected by Hochtief in 24 months. Griffin Real Estate is the investor of the project. „Bank Ochrony Środowiska” (Bank for Environmental Protection) provided financial support for the undertaking.
