EC provides financing for ICC

On 26th of November 2013, the City of Katowice received a grant from the European Commission for the development of International Convention Center (ICC). The verification process took over 3 years.

The undertaking is one of three major projects of the European Fund for Regional Development under Regional Operational Programme of the Silesia Voivodeship for 2007-2013, of which the total amount exceeds EUR 50 million. According to this, the entire investment process of costs qualification needed the approval of European Commission. The Silesian Voivodeship, which is responsible for the allocation of the EU funds, filed the motion to obtain the grant in September 2010.

The Commission founded that the financing of the multifunctional ICC in Katowice is compatible with the internal market and project’s assumptions, and has accordingly decided not to raise objections to the notified measure, consequently giving a green light for the financing.

In November this year, the Silesian Voivodeship’s board adopted a resolution that allows to increase the financial help for the development of ICC from the level of 61,52% to 73,30% of qualified costs. The rest (26,7%) will be funded from the City of Katowice. The exact total gross value of the project has been also increased from PLN 304,6 million to PLN 321,8 million, while the financial support will amount to PLN 182,1 million.
