Balzola wins another contract in Katowice

Balzola has won a tendering procedure for the modernization of tram trackways on Kościuszki St. The consortium made of Spanish company and its Polish subsidiary was chosen by Tramwaje Śląskie, a management body of the tram infrastructure in the Katowice agglomeration.

The price offered by Balzola amounts to PLN 31,16 million and is the lowest from amongst seven bids. The company also proposed the maximum guarantee period – ten years. The prime contractor will have 16 months to conduct the contracted works.

The building company headquartered in Bilbao, Spain, will modernize the Kościuszki trackways located from the junction of Konopnickiej and Kochanowskiego streets to Górnośląska Av. The final section of the trams number 6 and 16 (the „Brynów” district) will also be rebuilt within the contract.

Previously, Balzola (as part of the consortium created with NDI) was contracted to conduct works within the first and the second stage of the Market Square – Roundabout area’s redevelopment as well as for the modernization of 3 Maja St. The total worth of the three contracts exceeded PLN 127 million.

The rebuild is part of tram lines modernization in the Katowice agglomeration. It is planned to refit about 46 kilometers of tram lines in six cities (15% of the entire tram line system in the agglomeration), purchasing of 30 new trams and modernization of 75 old vehicles of the “105N” type for gross PLN 801 million. The amount will be subsidized by the EU funds.
