Academy of Music in Katowice plans to erect new building

The City Hall of Katowice transfered a 0,5ha parcel of land to the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. Authorities of the academy announced to create there a „clinic of sound”.

A notarial deed was signed on Tuesday, 17th of December. The subjected plot is located at 56 Wojewódzka St. opposite the buildings of the school. According to Tomasz Miczka, rector of the academy, a new educational facility will be built on the property where a sound laboratory, Museum of Silesian Organs, 150-seat auditorium are to be created and where projects of the Vocal Institute will be carried out including music therapy and voice therapy.

The Academy of Music has already presented a development plan for the purposes of the „clinic of sound” to the City Council.

This is not the first time when the City Hall transfers properties for educational projects at no cost charge. One of the examples is the plot where the Scientific Information Center and Academic Library was raised. In 2011, the City Hall granted the parcel of land on Św. Pawła St. where the Krzysztof Kieślowski Radio and Television Faculty (WRiTV) will be erected by the University of Silesia.

The total worth of the land granted to the academy by the City Hall exceeds PLN 6 million.
