City Hall shows final shape of Market Sq.

The City Hall of Katowice presented today a final architectural project of the Market Square. The image of the most important place in the City Center was prepared by the Redan studio from Szczecin.

The subjected area is located between the “Zenit” and “Młyńska 1” buildings. The new visualizations also show the new development of the square in front of the Silesian Theater. Previously, the City Hall wanted to choose a designer of the area in a public tender procedure.

Four firms invited to design Market Sq.

The City Hall of Katowice invited four architectural firms to make their bids for a detailed design of the Market Square’s public spaces.

The four studios were chosen out of six that have submitted applications in late September within the first stage of the procedure. The second stage is a limited tender where the four firms will enter the bids. The price and quality of the proposed architectural ideas for the area will be taken into consideration

Three projects become clearer

Together with a February public opinion poll which concerned citizens’ preferences for an appearance of the future Katowice’s downtown, more projects’ details were presented. According to the designers the most important foundation of the City Center redevelopment which combines all the three proposed concepts, is a wish to execute a significant transformation of the Center’s public space. It has to be the place, where citizens enjoy theirs time, both during large open-air performances and moments spend here by day, or during evening-meetings.

Settlements between the City Hall of Katowice and the Polish-Spanish consortium chosen as a planner of the new center, was presented during a press conference. Four companies composes the consortium. A chief and coordinator of the design process is BPI Redan which will be concerned with a city architecture, green spaces and hydrology (shape of Rawa river banks). Spanish Apia XXI is going to prepare roads and parkings plan as well as an undergound infrastructure and sewers.
