Since the construction works start, the development of Scientific Information Center and Academic Library (SICAL) is progressing steadily. Today, the structural members of a second crane had been brought to the construction site and an installation work started. A reinforced concrete is completed and a side walls’ reinforcement of the underground car park is under preparation.
In November, the Silesian Philharmonic had called for a bid as a prime contractor of the Philharmonic seat’s refurbishment and extension. On Friday, December 18th the bid was decided. Six companies tendered for a contract. The cheapest offer (PLN 20,73 million) was filed by the consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Infrastructuras. The second-best price was proposed by Gliwickie Przedsiębiorstwo Budownictwa Przemysłowego (PLN 22,23 m).
The Silesian Museum and Śląskie Voivodeship took the next step on December 15th toward building a new PLN 324 million seat for the Museum by entering into affirmative opinion which concerned a substantive and technical evaluation of the project. The verification process of the project co-financed by the European Union’s funds as part of the Regional Operational Programme for Śląskie Voivodeship for the years 2007-2013 was examined by the regional government for Śląskie Voivodeship.
In the name of one of the three “Knowledge and Innovation Communities” (KIC), several universities, research institutions and business partners from the Silesian Agglomeration became a part of “PolandPlus” co-location center (CC PolandPlus). The Agglomeration is represented by the University of Silesia in Katowice, the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal from Zabrze, the Central Mining Institute and Tauron Polska Energia S.A., both seated in Katowice.
In the beginning of 2010, Opal Real Estate is going to make available for tenants two refurbished buildings located in the area of Baildon Smelter. The bigger one named “Steel Office” will offer 4 000 sq. m of leasable office spaces disposed on two storeys. The building is placed on Szewczenki St. The second building is localised on Żelazna St. This three-storey office project will deliver the area of about 1 500 sq. m. It is possible to rent a small space.
